David and Ruth De Garmo

David and Ruth De Garmo have served as missionary educators since 2001. The call that God has given them has been clear for many years—to train leaders through Christian higher education.

In 2013, David joined Global University as Associate Dean of the Graduate School of Theology. The school offers programs leading to the Master of Arts and Doctor of Ministry. Learning at the graduate level prepares students to provide leadership as ministers, educators, and organizational leaders.

Why Global University? David and Ruth give four reasons why they are enthusiastic about their opportunity to connect their ministry with the school:
  1. Leaders and workers are the most importance resource for evangelism and discipleship. Reading Matthew 9:35-38 one finds that Jesus identified “laborers” as the primary focus of prayer for the harvest.
  2. Everyone has heard the proverb that giving a man a fish feeds him for a day while teaching him to fish feeds him for a lifetime. Global University teaches men and women “how to fish.”
  3. Ministry training must be accessible. Global University provides a high-quality, cost-efficient theological training for ministry around the world, including the United States.
  4. It works! For decades, Global University has proven itself as an effective tool for evangelism, discipleship, and leadership training.
An experienced minister and educator, David is well qualified for his role at the university. He served American Indian College (Phoenix, Arizona) for eleven years, most recently as President. For twenty years, David and Ruth served local churches, fourteen as a pastor, six as a music minister. David earned the Bachelor of Music from Evangel University (Springfield, Missouri), the Master of Divinity at Northern Baptist Theological Seminary (Lombard, Illinois), and Doctor of Ministry at the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (Springfield, Missouri).

“Missions is a team effort,” says David. “We need your prayers and financial support. Our commitment is to be faithful and accountable stewards of your investment in the Harvest.”

"Illinois missionaries hold an incredible place in the history of Assemblies of God missions.  They have served as Area Directors, Regional Directors and country moderators.  They have served as Bible college presidents, ministry directors and other executive leadership positions.  Some of the greatest names in Assemblies of God missions have come from the State of Illinois.  David and Ruth De Garmo are such people.  They have a rich heritage of leadership in church ministry and in AG missions.  Academic excellence, combined with a genuine love and heart for those who do not know Christ, have brought the De Garmo's to positions of leadership. We are so excited that these members of our family are moving into an important role with Global University."

"The mission of Global University can be summed up with the words "reach the lost and teach the found."  David and Ruth DeGarmo have made this the focus of their lives and their service to the Lord.  David served faithfully as a pastor in the Illinois District, giving great leadership to a growing church.  In recent years, he has provided visionary leadership for American Indian College.  As they engage in their work at Global University, they bring a proven ministry and a track record of reaching the lost and teaching the found."

Assistant Superintendent and Executive Secretary
Illinois District Assemblies of God

Global University

Global University is a fully accredited non-profit Christian University, in the Pentecostal tradition, based out of Springfield, Missouri. As a worldwide online and distance education pioneer, the university integrates education and service through a network in 150 countries, including the United States. Four schools comprise Global University: School for Evangelism and Discipleship, Berean School of the Bible, Undergraduate School of Bible and Theology and Graduate School of Theology.

The mission of Global University is to:

  • integrate education and service through a worldwide network for student support
  • provide access to ministerial training from adult continuing education to the graduate level
  • produce curricular materials in multiple languages
  • serve the local church and Christian community through evangelism, discipleship, and leadership training through nonresidential distributed learning methods

The missional focus of Global University is to train pastors, church leaders, and workers to better fulfill their calling—to actively engage the local church in the transformation of lives, families, communities, and nations.

Global University has a combined history of more than 80 years of service, yet is on the cutting edge of technology with on-line courses. However, print courses remain a mainstay for those who prefer to study in print or do not have internet access. The goal is to make evangelism, discipleship, and training accessible to everyone-everywhere!
